Mitchell, Rachel and I started our day in the Grand Canyon by waiting for a sunrise at the South Rim.

Taking pictures all the while, of course.

Here comes the sun!

What an amazing change when the sun lit up the colors in the canyon!

I always enjoy very obvious signs!

After sunrise we started a hike into the canyon...

it started as a snowy, cold hike...

With icy conditions at points...

And PLENTY of switchbacks to drop our elevation.

As you get lower in the canyon the temperature warms up, making mud to replace the ice

Scenic vistas abound...

Started to look more like AZ...

We all had to stop for a photo!

The trail was not always wide but often steep!

Skeleton point, perhaps half way along our route

Finally! A view of the Colorado River!

And then we had to go back up!

We DID NOT feed the wildlife...

but the wildlife was bold enough to help themselves!

Finally! Back up at the top!

After an 8 hour day, I'm happy...

Rachel feels a sense of accomplishment...
but Mitch thinks we should have just taken the mules that were available!

Hoover Dam

After a trip to Israel, which can be found documented on my brother Mike's blog http://www.killercain37.blogspot.com/ , I discovered how blogging is an easy way to share my travel pictures.
First chance: a long weekend in February! Landed in Vegas to meet my cousins Rachel and Mitch, from there to the Grand Canyon via the Hoover Dam and on to Phoenix for MLB spring training! What a great weekend!
